EMANANT SKATEBOARDS

DECK DESIGNS

Emanant Skateboards is a California-based company that specializes in producing handmade fingerboards but is in the process of transitioning to making full-size skateboards. These deck designs were created to provide eye-catching visuals that remain true to the brand’s inspiration from 1960s psychedelia as well as the hippie and skateboarding subcultures.

PSYCHEDELIC LANDSCAPE

Inspired by Peter Max and the work of the 1960s art collective “The Fool,” the Psychedelic Landscape deck utilizes an all-over approach that fills the entirety of the deck’s surface with vibrant colors and details. The design process of this deck utilized both traditional and digital media. It began with a sketch that was then refined to remove components and to better complement the dimensions of the skateboard deck. The drawing was then scanned and imported into Adobe Illustrator where it was redrawn and colored as vector shapes.

SPLATTERED EMANANT

The Splattered Emanant deck utilizes the company’s logo and the colors of the Rastafarian flag to provide another nod to the brand’s cultural inspirations. The splattered and spray painted aesthetic was achieved by photographing real paint splatters then using a mix of Photoshop and Illustrator to rearrange and vector the shapes, giving it a more realistic and natural look. This aesthetic grounds the design in street and graffiti subcultures that have often intersected with skateboarding.

EMANANT GNOME

The Emanant Gnome deck once again pulls from psychedelia and hippie culture while also utilizing the gnome character, a recurring figure from other Emanant merchandise. The deck graphic incorporates halftones that form gradients in red, blue, yellow, and pink, creating a more psychedelic optical illusion as well as referencing comic art and the pop art movement of the 60s.
