Emanant Skateboards is a California-based company that specializes in producing handmade fingerboards. As part of a boundary-pushing move to create full-size skateboards, I was tasked with creating three distinct skateboard deck print graphics to represent the Emanant brand and culture.

These skateboard designs were conceptualized to provide eye-catching visuals that remain true to the brand’s inspiration from 1960s psychedelia as well as the hippie and skateboarding subcultures. The design process for each utilized both traditional and digital media, often combining physical techniques, photography, compositing in Adobe Photoshop, before being finished as vector shapes in Adobe Illustrator. The visual aesthetics feature references to psychedelic art, pop art, and graffiti culture in a tip of the cap to subcultures and movements that have often influenced or intersected with skateboarding.
